After being in lockdown during the pandemic, as well as spending lots of time working from home, we felt like it was time for a break away. We just needed a change of scenery.
So, we had a think about where to go, before deciding to book a short hotel break at a seaside resort.
We also thought it would be good to book a break that included some kind of entertainment, as that was something we’d missed during the pandemic.
This is what we booked:
Music Tribute Break with ukbreakaways
Hotel: Grand Hotel, Scarborough
When: March 2022
Duration: 3 days / 2 nights
Including: Dinner, Bed & Breakfast & DJ & Tribute Act performance on both evenings
DAY 1
Travelling to our Holiday Destination
We set off on our journey to Scarborough. We checked the weather forecast and we were due to have sun all weekend – we were all excited for our little break away.
We knew it would take us 3 to 4 hours to get to our holiday destination, so we thought it’d be nice to stop off in a couple of places to break up the journey.
Our first stop was in Boroughbridge for a spot of lunch. We’d visited this little town in North Yorkshire before and we knew it would make an ideal place to stretch our legs and grab a bite to eat.
We then continued our journey, before stopping off at Helmsley for a coffee. This market town had been recommended to us, and it certainly didn’t disappoint. We had a lovely wander round, went in a few little independent shops, before enjoying a coffee at a local café.
We then headed to Scarborough, arriving late afternoon - just in time for check-in
Arriving at Grand Hotel, Scarborough
On arrival, we parked up at the NCP Car Park, in the centre of Scarborough and close to the hotel. The hotel had advised us in advance that this would be the best place to park and we got a special reduced rate too (through the hotel), so that was a bonus.
After a short walk from the car park, we arrived at the Grand Hotel which overlooks Scarborough’s South Bay.
We were all immediately struck by just how ‘grand’ it is. It’s a beautiful Grade II building with stunning interiors. We later found out that, when it opened back in the 1800s, it was the largest hotel in Europe!
After a smooth check-in process, with friendly reception staff, we went up to our rooms. They were ideal for our break - clean, warm and well-equipped.
We unpacked and then headed down to the hotel restaurant for our evening meal.

Dinner & Evening Entertainment
Dinner was great. The atmosphere was very relaxed. It was all self-service and there was a good choice of food.
We then headed to one of the hotel’s ballrooms to enjoy the evening’s entertainment. It started with a DJ and was then following by tribute act, The Soul Seasons who performed a variety of music.
During the entertainment, you could buy ‘2 for 1’ drinks from the bar. The bar staff were friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble for them.
It was a brilliant atmosphere. People were up dancing and enjoying themselves, which was really lovely to see. I got the impression that people had clearly missed this kind of fun entertainment during the pandemic, enjoying quality time with friends and family. It certainly was good to experience this kind of entertainment again.

DAY 2
Exploring the Hotel, Followed by Breakfast
Before breakfast, I had a look around the Grand Hotel. It’s such an impressive hotel and I wanted to spend some time taking it all in. I went out onto the sun terrace where you can admire the stunning views of the sea and harbour. We were lucky as we had glorious, sunny weather all weekend.

Discovering the Surrounding Area
Following a lovely breakfast, with plenty of choice, we decided to spend the day exploring Scarborough and the surrounding area.
After a walk around Scarborough, we bought a bus ticket that allowed us to hop on and off local buses. We decided to visit Bridlington and Filey. We had a brilliant day out exploring these coastal towns. Yes, it was cold but it was sunny – just what you need when you’re at the seaside!
Another Great Night of Entertainment
On returning to the hotel, we enjoyed a drink in the beautiful foyer/bar area. We then headed down to dinner – another delicious meal, self-service, lots of choice, with a nice relaxed ambience within the restaurant.
After dinner, we went to the ballroom for our 2nd night of entertainment – a DJ and an Elvis tribute act.
Again, it was a fun night, with ‘2 for 1’ drinks at the bar. ‘Elvis’ soon got everyone up dancing and having a good time. After he’d performed many classics, the DJ came on and people continued to dance to a variety of music.
It was lovely to see people of all ages enjoying themselves and having a fun weekend.

DAY 3
Checking Out and Heading Home…
We enjoyed our final breakfast and packed our things, ready for check out.
With an hour to spare, we had the opportunity to have a final stroll along Scarborough’s seafront before heading home, after a thoroughly enjoyable break away.
Would We Do It All Again?
Yes, absolutely!
We were all really impressed with our ukbreakaways Tribute break. We’d definitely go on another one.
It was a great experience – good hotel accommodation, nice food and the entertainment was fantastic.
It was the fun weekend away that we were looking for!
We also all agreed that we’d love to return to Scarborough. It’s a great town to base yourselves, with lots to see and do. There are also lots of places nearby to explore. Next time, we’ll probably head north and visit Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay.
So, thanks ukbreakaways – we had a great holiday and can’t wait to book our next one!
