Would you like to know what great places you can visit in Blackpool that won’t cost you a penny?

We’ve put together a list of some fantastic free experiences you can enjoy in one of the most popular seaside resorts in the UK.

There are so many attractions - you’ll be spoilt for choice!

1. Have fun on the beach

Blackpool is described as one of the best beach resorts in the UK and is a favourite with people of all ages. Enjoy some time down on the beach, relaxing in the glorious sunshine and perhaps having a paddle in the sea.

It’s a great way to chill out and of course a seaside holiday wouldn’t be complete without an ice cream or two!

A popular beach location is between North Pier and Central Pier. You’ll find a more secluded spot at Starr Gate in the South Shore area of the town.

2. Take a stroll along the promenade

Have a walk down Blackpool Promenade – a fantastic way to blow away the cobwebs and breathe in the lovely sea air, known for its health benefits.

There’s so much to explore on the seafront and it’s an ideal way to get some exercise in too. You’ve got North Shore and South Shore which are the quieter areas.

If you prefer something a bit livelier, a visit to the Golden Mile in central Blackpool is an absolute must, with its buzzing atmosphere.

3. Visit the three piers

Yes, Blackpool has an impressive three Victorian piers for you to visit – North Pier, Central Pier and South Pier, each one has its own unique features.

The oldest of the piers is North Pier which opened in 1863 – it's also the longest of the three.

Walk the Golden Mile to reach Central Pier, home to Blackpool’s Big Wheel and fun fair.

Continue to South Pier which opened in 1893 and was originally known as the Victoria Pier.

On the piers, you’ll find live entertainment, arcades, amusement rides, food stalls and games – family fun for everyone!

4. Explore Stanley Park

Include a visit to Stanley Park in your holiday itinerary, a real hidden gem in Blackpool and located just over a mile from Blackpool Tower.

This Grade II-listed park opened in 1926 and there’s an amazing 390 acres for you to explore.

You’ll find a magical blend of architecture, horticulture and recreation, with its bandstand, Italian gardens and boating lake – a beautiful, tranquil place to explore and enjoy.

5. Marvel at the Blackpool Illuminations

When you visit the Fylde coast, why not schedule your visit so you can experience one of the best lightshows ever that won’t cost you a penny?

The illuminations were first introduced in 1879 with just one row of lamps along the seafront. You’ve now got an outstanding 6 miles of light displays to marvel at!

You’ll see them wherever you turn – on buildings, fairground rides, lamp posts, trams and of course Blackpool Tower is fully lit from top to bottom – a sight to be seen.

6. Discover the Comedy Carpet

Enjoy some laughs with a visit to the Comedy Carpet on the seafront, opposite the famous Blackpool Tower.

From conception to completion, it took five years to complete and was unveiled in 2011 by the legendary Liverpudlian comedian, Ken Dodd.

This 2,200 m2 work of art features catchphrases, jokes and the names of more than 1,000 comedians, including Les Dawson, Tommy Cooper and Morecambe & Wise.

It’s truly unique and is one of the largest pieces of public art to ever be commissioned in Britain.

7. Look around the Grundy Art Gallery

If you’re an art lover, you’ll enjoy a visit to Grundy Art Gallery, located in a Grade II-listed Edwardian Building beside the Central Library.

The attraction has been welcoming visitors since 1911 and hosts an eclectic programme of thought-provoking exhibitions, featuring work from both established and emerging artists. The Gallery is open from Tuesday to Saturday.
