Les Miserables - From Stage To Screen And Back Again

Les Miserables from Stage to Screen and Back Again!

When Victor Hugo wrote his historical French novel, first published in 1862, little could he have imagined that it would become a world-wide phenomenon with over 50 film versions, more than 20 television adaptations and a dozen musical theatre productions performed in 22 languages in 52 countries to over 70 million people.

Cameron Mackintosh’s incredible production has broken box office records across the UK, America, Japan, Korea, Spain, and Australia. The Oscar®- winning 2012 film version starring Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway and Amanda Seyfried, has become one of the most successful movie musicals of all time.

The early 2019 BBC TV epic six-part series featuring award-winning Dominic West and Olivia Colman amongst its star-studded cast brought much discussion for its lack of the musical numbers that are so well-known across the globe such as I Dreamed A Dream, Bring Him Home and One Day More, but successfully paid homage to this unforgettable story of love, war and hope set in post-revolutionary France.
